Borrowed Fire
In 1998, I was commissioned by Kathanjali Productions to shoot a documentary in India. As director of photography, I shot footage in Kerala capturing a family of Hindu shadow puppeteers living on a rice farm who were the last practitioners of an ancient religious rite. Over a period of fifteen days, the director and I followed the patriarch of the family as he performed with his sons and shared his passion for the revered Ramayana epic that formed the basis for the puppet play performed over twenty-one nights in January. I have assembled some camera originals into a brief demo reel featuring highlights from the shoot.
